Adult TrainingListed below are the training dates for courses for the coming year. There are Section specific integrated courses for new Leaders run by the Surrey Training Team, specific modules, special interest courses and also details of our local training courses. If you are interested in any of these, please follow the application instructions below each course. If you do attend any of the external courses, please let Penny Lympany know so that your training records can be kept up to date. For the full description of each module's aims and objectives please refer to the Adult's personal learning file.


As always, if you have any questions about the courses please either ask the course co-ordinator, Penny Lympany or Andy Sainsbury-Brown (DC). If you have any questions about training in general please contact Penny, Andy or your Group Scout Leader or ADC. Remember, these courses are enjoyable, informative and give you a chance to meet other leaders and swap ideas and experience and they also get booked up very quickly - so act now.

Skills for residential experiences - Module 38
This training does not automatically qualify a participant for a Nights Away Permit. It is an opportunity to learn and develop the skills needed for the Nights Away Permit Assessment.

Special interest courses


Course title: Pioneering, Cost: £40.00
The Pioneering Course is open to all adults, from absolute beginners to those wishing to hone their skills. The course starts with basic knotting and culminates in building major pioneering projects. This is an ideal opportunity to increase your knowledge, skills and confidence under the guidance of an experienced team of Scouters keen on pioneering. Optional residential overnight Saturday (and Friday if you travel from afar!).

Course title: Navigation, Cost: £40.00
A course for adults wanting to gain confidence and proficiency when using map and compass. All aspects of navigation will be covered including Map Reading, Map Making, Compass Skills, Route Planning, Estimation and Elementary Orienteering. The course ends with guided orienteering over the permanent Albury Downs Course and should enable participants to teach the navigation parts of the Cub Scouts Map Reader and Navigation Activity Badges, Scout Hiker, Navigator and Orienteer Activity Badges and Expedition navigation and planning skills.

Bushcraft and Survival Skills, Cost: £60.00 (includes a Frost Mora training knife)
A fun-packed and practical weekend for adults who wish to increase their outdoors skills - this course is designed as a practical, hands-on experience of the basics of Bushcraft & Survival. Ideal for adults who wish to develop the skills & knowledge needed to deliver theory & practical elements of the Scout Survival Skills badge. The weekend covers additional scouting and bushcraft skills for wilderness style camping and expeditions. No prior experience is required to attend this course.

Getting started courses covering modules 1,3 and 5 must be completed within 5 months of receiving a provisional warrant. Dates of courses will be advertised to coincide with Appointments sub committee meetings.
